During your visit, the pediatrician may suggest that you see a specialist for further evaluation. In addition, certain insurance companies require that a referral be obtained from your primary pediatrician prior to scheduling an appointment to see a specialist. After your visit, you will be given the number for the specialist requested. Once you have scheduled the appointment, please call our office to let us know the date and time of the appointment. We will then be able to fax over the appropriate forms and clinic notes to the specialist’s office. If you are having difficulty making an appointment with the specialist, please contact our office, and we will provide further assistance.
In recent years, bacteria have become increasingly resistant to antibiotics. This is due, in large part, to their inappropriate use (e.g., giving antibiotics in the setting of a viral infection). Antibiotic-resistant bacteria pose a significant threat to children and to the community. For this reason, we believe that it is important to prescribe antibiotics only when clinically indicated. Unfortunately, it is impossible to tell over the phone whether an infection requires an antibiotic prescription. For that reason, it is our policy to prescribe antibiotics only after we have had the opportunity to examine your child. If you are concerned that your child has a bacterial infection that requires antibiotics, please call our office to schedule an appointment.
At Pediatric Center for Wellness, we believe that vaccines are a safe, effective, and essential way to protect your children and our community from serious and potentially life-threatening illnesses.
We believe that children should be vaccinated according to the schedule outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics. This schedule is the result of years of scientific research, testing, and safety monitoring. The majority of immunizations are given to children in infancy because it is precisely during this period that children are most vulnerable to serious illnesses.
Because immunizations are so highly effective, many serious diseases are no longer considered a real threat to children in this country. However, as more and more parents choose not to immunize their children, the incidence of many of these diseases is on the rise. As diseases reemerge vulnerable populations, such as newborns and those with autoimmune and other health issues are placed at direct risk by children who are not immunized. We feel that the best way to protect your children and our communities is to immunize healthy children completely and on schedule.
We believe that immunizations are safe and that the numerous studies done on vaccine safety have proven this to be the case. We do recognize, however, that many parents have concerns about the safety of vaccines for their children. There are many websites that present information that is both unscientific and unsubstantiated, and that, in our opinion, preys on the fears and vulnerabilities of parents. We are always willing to review studies or websites with you and will be glad to go through the data together. If after discussing this information with your provider, you are still uncomfortable with immunizing according to the CDC schedule, we are willing to accommodate alternative or delayed schedules.
ADHD Medication Refill Policy
Children with ADHD require more frequent monitoring and follow-up. We therefore require that patients with ADHD be seen every 2 months for routine appointments. At these appointments, we will monitor weight and blood pressure and discuss progress in school and medication efficacy. One of these appointments can be combined with your child’s routine checkup. Medication refills will not be given unless your child continues to be seen for these routine appointments.
The majority of ADHD medications are controlled substances and cannot be called into pharmacy. We request that you give us at least 7 days’ notice if you require a refill on your medication.
Patients who have been off medication or have not been seen in the past 2 months will require a visit prior to providing any additional prescriptions.
